The Law of Attraction is a fascinating concept that suggests our thoughts and energy shape our reality. Understanding its basics can empower you to create positive change in your life. Let’s take a look at this universal principle.
What Is the Law of Attraction?
The Law of Attraction says that like attracts like. In other words, the energy you emit through your thoughts, feelings, and actions draws similar energy back to you. Essentially, positive energy attract positive experiences, while negativity brings in more negativity. Another way to describe it is like a mirror. If you smile, the mirror smiles back. When you choose to change internally that is then reflected in your external reality. The key is to fully shift internally and that can be the tricky bit when we live in the 3D world.
Historical Roots and Key Figures
The Law of Attraction has historical roots in the “New Thought” movement in the 19th century, which emphasized the power of positive thinking and spiritual alignment. It gained a lot of popularity in the last 15 to 20 years, or so, thanks to Rhonda Byrne’s book, “The Secret” (2006), which was later made into a short film. This film featured law of attraction teachers such as Jack Canfield who went into detail about how it works. Other important teachers include Abraham Hicks, channelled by Esther Hicks who have extensively spoken and lectured about this subject.
Three Fundamental Principles of the Law of Attraction
Similar Energies Attract: Just as magnets pull together objects with matching polarity, our thoughts and emotions attract corresponding experiences. Positive thinking invites positive outcomes, while negativity encourages more of the same.
Mind Space Matters: To harness the Law of Attraction, consciously fill your mental space with positivity. Try to clear out negativity to make room for abundance.
Visualization and Gratitude: Visualize your desired future—see it, feel it, believe it. Practice gratitude for the present, appreciating what you have. Gratitude opens the door to more blessings.
Caveat: In practice all of this can be more tricky than it looks and often the results in our lives and it can very hard to shift internally if you're in certain physical circumstances. The law of attraction teachings are meant to empower and one must never feel guilty if one is not always in a positive mood or down for some reason.
Using the Law of Attraction in Everyday Life
Here’s how you can apply this powerful law:
Clarify Your Desires: Identify precisely what you want to manifest until you hit a point of resistance e.g. it may be easier to imagine a 'nice amount of money to do whatever you like' than one million dollars.
Visualize Your Ideal Life: Create vivid mental images of your desired reality. Feel the joy, success, and love as if they’re already yours. Meditation can be a great way to do this. I recommend Dr Joe Dispenza's 'tuning into new potentials' meditation.
Practice Gratitude: Daily gratitude shifts your focus to the positive aspects of your life. Acknowledge even the small blessings. You could do this on your train journey to work or has you walk to the shops.
Reframe Negative Thoughts: Transform pessimistic or negative thoughts into more empowering ones. Instead of saying, “I cannot,” say, “I am capable.” I have a YouTube video on changing your beliefs which might help. My channel is called 'Wisdom Wanderer'.
Meditate Regularly: Meditation calms the mind, aligns your energy, and enhances your connection to 'universal consciousness' which you can sense by being in the present moment.
The law of attraction is a great psychological and metaphysical tool. I would encourage you do further research and genuinely practice to see if you get results. It might be easier to start by trying to manifest things that don't mean too much to at first like a free cup of coffee. The less resistance there is the more likely the thing is to manifest.
